Up To Date Online Security

Data security is always important. In a modern world where information is shared through mobile devices, apps and countless other methods, it’s more important than ever to have reliable protection. This includes protecting data and ensuring your online presence is operational. A damaged or infected website is of little use to a potential customer, after all.

As an organisation or business, you have a duty to keep information safe. This is both information relating to your business, and those of your customers. The latter is also a legal obligation under the data protection act. As such, having the best security and defence is crucial.

Common Attacks

There are various methods of attack one can take when trying to access information. This is often done by trying to remotely access or breach entry into a server or database.

One of the most common of these is Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack. This is where multiple machines, often slaved (by which they have been previously compromised and often used without their user’s knowledge) attempt to access your website, server or system.

Besides the attempted entry, the main problem with a DDOS attack is that the vast numbers, which can often equate to thousands of machines, can bring any communication to and from your website to a stop. In other words, it’s too much traffic, and causes various problems.

At the worst, it slows down or outright stops your website, which is obviously harmful to any profit making business.

The best protection is that of prevention. A DDoS attack can be devastating, so it’s crucial to have the right support. This is a two step process. The first is to have the right DDOS protection. The second is to verify this through simulation testing.

This, as you may have guessed, is a simulation designed to resemble a DDoS attack. Not only does this show how much your business can be affected by such an attack but it also demonstrates the effectiveness of your prevention methods. Buying adequate security is one thing, but knowing it works is better.

Other Security

Don’t forget that DDoS isn’t the only form of attack out there. As such you need a dedicated suite of prevention and security software and services, to ensure you are safe from any angle.

Currently, one of the best and most accepted security standards is known as ISO27001. Making sure you meet this will provide an ample guideline with which to protect yourself. This should cover a multitude of attacks, from entry breaches to severe DDoS attacks.
