Three fun ways to make money with your mates

1. Start a lottery syndicate

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that buying more lottery tickets gives you a greater chance of winning prizes. So why not band together with your mates and buy tickets together? The easiest way to do this is by forming a lottery syndicate. While you’ll have to share any winnings in proportion to each member’s contribution, it’s a much more sensible way to play the lottery. As pointed out by Lotto Social: “Even if just one person’s ticket wins, everyone in the syndicate will benefit.” So if you’re playing in a group of ten, your odds of bagging the jackpot go from 1 in 45 million to 10 in 45 million.

Granted, the likelihood of you scooping the top prize is clearly still low, but it’s important to remember the different tiers of prizes you can still stand to win. By matching five numbers you can secure a cool £1,750, which is nothing to be sniffed at, even if shared with others. In fact, the odds of winning any prize on the main Lotto game are 1 in 9.3, which drops even further should you play in a syndicate.

2. Join the UK’s bingo revolution

Long associated with an older generation, bingo halls are becoming more frequently filled by younger players. Enticed by the various alternative bingo nights popping up across the country, young Brits are heading to bingo halls in their droves. From brunch and music bingo—with the latter featuring songs played instead of numbers being read out—to drag and hip hop bingo—which involves dance-offs, lip-sync battles, and more—you’re sure to find a night you and your mates will love.

And of course, the potential to make a pretty penny is still a huge part of bingo’s appeal, with some halls offering prizes worth tens of thousands of pounds. Considering that tickets generally cost just a few quid, it can be well worth taking the plunge and attending a few events. Even if you don’t win

cash, many of the other prizes on offer are well worth the effort, from holidays to free booze. So keep your eyes down and watch out for ‘two fat ladies’, it’s time to play some bingo.

3. Get quizzical

If you’re not willing to gamble with your money, then another potentially profitable avenue to go down could be quiz app HQ Trivia. The free game live-streams 15-minute quiz shows to millions every day, with prize money—which can be anything from £500 to £200,000 or more—shared between all of the winners. The record win to date came in April 2018, with Ohio resident Jason Varney making worldwide headlines when he admitted to guessing 80% of his answers but still splitting $250,000 (£198,000) with eleven others. So you stand to make a lot more than you would on the quiz machine at your local, without having to pay for the opportunity either.

All you have to do is answer 12 multiple choice questions on a variety of general knowledge topics. These range from incredibly easy to devastatingly difficult, becoming increasingly tough as the quiz progresses. Getting just ten seconds in which to answer each question—in order to prevent frantic Googling of the answers—the game now offers money for answering individual questions on certain quizzes. Its live game show format is occasionally fronted by celebrity hosts, with past presenters including Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Jimmy Kimmel, and Neil Patrick Harris adding to the sense of occasion. So, gather your mates round and prepare to get quizzical in the name of making some moolah.
